I spotted this Raccoon yesterday late around 8:00pm.
You rarely get a chance to photograph them here as they're primarily nocturnal. First time I've had enough light in the 9 plus years I've been shooting here in the Hill Country. The last times I spotted a raccoon was a mother with 3 babies in tow after dusk, about 3 years ago..

F/5, 1/320th, ISO 1000, 1D M3, 300mm f/2.8 + 1.4x ext. No flash.
Best viewed large via the purchase link on black.
Thanx for lookin' & have a great weekend!

I guess he was out for his mid-night snack? Very nice image. I like the pose, and the OOF background. Can't decide if there is too much of the OOF stuff, though, in the bg and fg overall. Just my thoughts... TFS!

Hi Howard,

I find these little beasts very appealing - love their "bandit" mask! This one looks nice and sharp where it should be. I find that this cropping has more background than suits my particular (peculiar?) taste - if this were mine I'd lose at least have the background on top.

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

Hi Brad & thank you for your suggestions.
Please keep in mind that there are factors that effect my comp beyond the notes.
I'm using a 1D M3 @ 10.1, so I must always compose/crop leaving enough to make a decent print.
I'm just happy that I finally caught this animal with enough light to pull it off :wavey:

Here it stopped and watched this single, over-arching arching blade of grass gently swaying in the breeze..
Lasted about 20 seconds as if was hypnotized

I love the muted light and detail on the raccoon. Great shot. :jump:
