A Night with the Stars

This was my campsite in the Crazy Mountains, from a couple of weeks ago. This is Cottonwood Lake, an amazing high alpine lake situated below the rugged Crazies of Montana. I wanted a nice location for viewing the Perseid Meteor Shower. What an experience, I counted over 60 meteors in about an hour and a half the first night, and over 20 the second night. Lots of extremely bright meteors that left amazing dust trails.

This is a blend of 3 exposures, started at twilight and taken about 30 minutes apart.

Thanks for looking and for any comments you may have!

Beautiful capture. The exposure of the BG is just right. Personal I hope the brightness of the tent can be reduced just a little bit.

The tent manufacturer just might be able to use this one, Zach.

Fantastic night scene Zack. I too can see some merit in toning down the tent. This does need to be looked at in a dark room to appreciate the sky detail and subtleties of the night mountain scape..

A very soothing and peaceful shot Zack. I kind of like the brightness of the tent, provides an interesting balance with the lake.

Hi Zack,
Beautiful scene, and it looks like a great place to camp. I don't mind the brightness of the tent, but the brightness of the sky does seem to be out of balance with the rest of the scene, given the visibility of the stars, and the comparative darkness of the lake. Excellent exposure and details in the the Earth part of the scene.

What a wonderful spot and it is easy to imagine you looking at the stars that night. However, the light in the tent seems really bright, both for star gazing and for this image. Nice comp and feel to it, with that just that one complaint.

Great placement of the tent. I like the way the lake comes in from the left. It draws the viewer into the whole picture.

This is a peaceful image, I remember my days and nights of camping and hiking in the wilderness. It was the time of my life. I especially like the lighting in the tent with the background and stars. Zach awesome job my friend - awesome job.
