A Day With Lon And Didi!

When Didi was here on his honeymoon, Lon and I drove down to Monterey and met him. We ended up shooting sunset at this spot with some overcast sky and marine layer. So nothing colorfully spectacular, but a nice spot to end the day with a couple of buddies!

Wow, this is FANNNNNTASTIC, especially the large version. What color this does have is wonderful, and you chose the perfect shutter speed. I can't think of anything that would improve it.

My kind of coastal scene Chris. Especially like the water motion. Sounds like you guys had a great time. I'll have to look you guys up next time I visit my sister in Danville/Calistoga, CA.

I really enjoy scenes like this, Chris. It shows the wild side of our natural world yet being presented in away of majestically beautiful too.

Wonderfully splendid! Very nice image---I love the pano (or pano crop). The colors and water motion are great as well. This must be a joy to have in your personal gallery.

Cool shot of Gate 7 Chris. I'm surprised you got this much texture in the marine layer as summer is usually just completely flat. I tend to like the more sideways looking comp you did here and and fact that you didn't go ultra wide which makes the stacks more prominent. You'll have to come back down for some color in the winter :toast:

Very cool shot! Love the pano presentation here. This might even make for a decent b&w.

Wow , this came out nicely! You definitely recognized the potential. Really well rendered. Yes there was not so much color in the sky, but the blue/red combo works great. The water looks fantastic and I like the inclusion of the rocks in the lower right.
Thanks for spending the day with me!

Chris,

Wow, all that time I was wondering what the heck you were shooting!

I must say you nailed it, this is fantastic! I think it's so difficult shooting coastal landscapes. Mostly because one always ends up shooting up or down the coast line leaving an empty corner, simply due to the angles. Anyway, this is a beautifully balanced seascape. Subtle, yet substantial color and great action in the surf.

I especially appreciate the visibility of the rocky beach in the LRC - I think that makes a big difference here is offsetting the otherwise detailless surf in that area.

It was a great afternoon evening with you guys, despite me being the only one to come home with a case of poison oak.

Eva - by all means! I'm 20min from Danville... would be happy to go out shooting next time you visit the relatives.

Wonderful image Chris. I'll be posting my takeaway shortly... ;-)

The large version really gives a sense of power and scale. Good moody landscape.

Love the mood, the color palette, the flow, and the pano composition. The waves suck my eyes right across the image. Excellent.

Chris, I was gone this week and didn't get to comment on this earlier. Very nice! I really enjoy looking at your large version. The powerful feel of the water really comes through and I like the color in this very much. Your comp works very nice here too. A wonderful feel to this image.
