One of my favorite subjects, the red wolves at the Miller Park Zoo. Pups from this pack have been placed in the wild by cross fostering.

Hi John. I like the dappled lighting in your photo. The wolf would have a bit more impact I believe if we could see just a little more of the eyes, preferably with a catchlight. Did you apply any sharpening to the wolf, I think he could use a little more to bring out even better fur texture. I can see some crosshatching in the background, did you apply some blur there? Thankyou for sharing.

Hi Gary,
I did apply some sharpening overall. The crosshatching is shadow from the chain link fence that encloses the exhibit, unfortunately I was limited to outside of the exhibit so I was somewhat limited to how I could move. I was using a large aperature to help keep the BG OOF. Thanks for your comments, which I have tried to use on the re-post, could not seem to gain any more sharpness in the coat.

Neat subject. Your confined shooting made for difficult choices. A little more depth of field would have been nice, but of course the fence would have begun to intrude more. I agree a catchlight would have been optimal. The one bright spot on the side of the nose seems a bit problematic, but overall you managed to come away with a pleasing image.

What a splendid animal and your image does this wolf justice. The lighting is interesting and I think it helps make this an even stronger image. Those eyes are messmerizing.

I like your processing in the repost very much, and I really like the look of this wolf and the intimacy of this image.
