Solar System + Repost

Our solar system on a frozen pond in Massachusetts. I took this back in 2007, January 21 to be exact. As I look back, I wish I had my Canon 5DM2 and 180mm L Maco and Pentax 67II back then. Maybe I'll have some luck this weekend in New Hampshire taking ice abstracts on the pond behind our condo since New England will be going into a deep freeze for the next couple of days..... 7F (-14C) with wind chills to -20F (-29C). Tomorrow evening will be even colder.

Canon 20D
Canon 60mm Macro
ISO200 1/100sec f/6.3

LR4 adjustments with B&W conversion using Silver Efex Pro2 in CS6

Thanks for having a look.

Love It!
I'll be a prick and say crop a vsl bit off the right side for more of a 4x5 aspect, but that's it. (vsl = very slight in premedia world)

This is simply wonderful! Easily recognized as what it is, it also sparks the imagination and invites whimsy. An excellent abstract and my new favorite of your images.

Really cool concept, well executed. Did you notice the likeness to outer-space before you took the shot? It really does look like a solar system.

When Worlds Collide Eva. I love it and I agree with Matt the 5x4 crop is even better. I'd print this one. Is that Earth in the top right I swear I see continents?

Thanks again Matt and thanks Nancy.

Vincent - No I did not notice the solar system when I first took this. I was reviewing my archives for an ice abstract when I came across this and Solar System just popped into mind.

Ian - Yes that is the earth in the upper right! Guess that is what caught my eye when going through my archives. Do you see some of the planets with moons around them? Thank you.

Awesome image Eva. The ice bubbles really do look like planets. I prefer the 4x5 crop.

Another exquisite ice abstract, Eva. Love the impression of a solar system set against a starry backdrop. Both this and your cropped version are superb, although the first post gives more of an idea of these planets floating in space, maybe because of the larger canvas of stars. Has a very three dimensional feel. Your b/w conversions are amazing.

Eva, the repost gives me an even more immediate impression of standing in the middle of this "universe". Very interesting work for me, and well crafted.

One must keep an open mind, and obviously an open eye for these type of possibilities. For such a simple look and overall idea this is great, Eva. Very nice capture and finished processing too.
Both are wonderful, but the second is a nice enhancement to the original idea. :wavey:

Eva,

Totally celestial! I see Kurt used the term as well, but that's what first came to my mind before reading any comments. Fabulous image and study, oh, and I like the crop too. Excellent!
