Yaki Star

The sun rose over Yaki Point last Sunday morning. The canyon had received about four inches of snow, so I drove up last weekend to catch the clearing storm. This is hand blend of two images for exposure. A larger version is provided.

You certainly caught the moment! The very dominant and detailed foreground mass and the sunstar pretty well capture the eye. There is no way to be sure, but by the clouds and far horizon this feels it should be rotated CW about a degree and a half.

Beautiful light you captured here Doug. The large version is especially nice. The snow is a very nice addition to the image. I hope some day to visit this area.

Beautiful scene with fantastic light. The snow really does a nice job showing your shadows.

Gorgeous sunrise. The haze in the canyon really adds to the 'hugeness' conveyed by your image. Love the snow glazed redrock in the foreground.

Perfectly composed, exposed and 'developed', Doug. The sunstar is a real nice accent without being overbearing. The light in the inner canyon is magical, and the snow is a perfect winter's touch. One for your growing portfolio of GC images, surely!

Very nice Doug, Great timing on the sun as it clips the bluff with its 'sunburst'.
I especially like the overall 'atmosphere', the LP looks fab :toast:

Thanks all for your comments.
Phil, I see what you mean about the distant clouds. I leveled the left side rim/Cape Royal for visual purposes since it is more prominent, although it actually slopes downward toward the canyon a bit, and the far east rim slopes down from right to left, making a canyon shot difficult to seem "level". I'll rotate the image CW and see how it looks.

Wow, such a sweet view here. Wonderful warm/cool contrasts and the hazy atmosphere typical here really adds depth. Love everything about this one!

Just enough detail in the canyon to give it interest and very nice sunstar.
