Cactus Flower

This pair was growing close to each other - not very small but not very large either. About 1.5 inches or so in diameter for each flower.

ND300s, AFD200mm F/4 Micronikkor @ F/22 ( ), 1/60 Sec, ISO400, Tripod, diffuser. Processing mostly done in NIK.

I paid a price later. There were spikes embedded in the plastic rings of the tripod which pierced my fingers, I had used my cap to shield for a different group of flowers, they picked up a lot of fine spikes which pierced my head and forehead. I have been warned  .

Thanks a lot for your comments on Pink Cosmos and do let me know what you think of this one.

Fantastic captured image Ram, they almost look like a mirrored image. Sorry about the pain and suffering that you paid to capture this portrait, but to me "in this comfortable chair" it was worth it.

Oh, the perils of floral photography !! A very fine image, Ram - I especially like the fading at the corners and the crisp capture of the flower centres

I really like how your comp has the interplay from one pistil to the other. It keeps my eye moving back and forth nicely. Very well done.

Ram: Excellent comp on this lovely pair and I like how you took the exposure right to the edge. Most excellent. I guess you midwest/northern folks don't get too familiar with cacti. >=))>

I hear you about the spines. I rarely come away from shooting prickly pear flowers without spines in multiple places. I like how you've angled the two blooms across the frame and their creation of a "wall" of petals between the two.

Hi Ram :wavey Wonderful color , detail , and symmetry ,: I thought that only roses and barberry bushes posed a problem with their spines..... i have planted many in my garden to keep the deer away.. and have been pierced and bloodied many times while pruning them .
