Dark Matter

Mt Cook, New Zealand

The image is a blue hour shot which I decided was more effective in black and white. The conversion brought out the contrasts between water and rock, as well as the details in the boulders better. I used a long exposure of 4 minutes to catch the movement of the few clouds. I liked how they capped the peaks like accents above words in certain European languages.

Very interesting Kah Kit, I love the conversion and the small clouds certainly make it for me.

This is a stunning BW. My guess is it needs to be seen on a black background (or even better as a large print) to really hit full potential. My taste would be for a little more detail in the water, but that's just personal preference.

Lots of great near far tension, accentuated by the soft water vs the sharp peaks. B&W tones are beautiful.

Love the rich blacks in this! The mood is excellent, too. I agree with John that a huge print on a black mat would make this optimum for viewing and relishing. :toast:

What a great scene! The processing is quite bold. Personally I feel the foreground is a little overpowering and I would feature the mountain more by cropping some of the bottom off, maybe 3/4 ratio. But that is of course a different look.

Very nice! I agree with John that this should be seen on a dark background, seeing the large version on a grey background makes it a lot of difference already. Very contrasty picture, but it really works well this time! Just out of curiosity, is the small strike an airplane, or maybe a planet?

This looks very dramatic. Black & white works really well here. I also agree with John that this should bee seen as a large print to hit its full potential. Great shot

Very, very nice! Very expressive and moving...

A four minute exposure - film (I presume) or digital?

Tim!

Nice black and white conversion, Kah. I like what the long exposure did to the clouds, not sure about that one star streak, though. Either way, nicely done.
