Canon 1D-X, 500mm f4, handheld
f16, 1/500, ISO2000

Ridgewall Rookery, St. Paul Island, Pribilof Islands. There was some light fog which softened the photo just a bit.

Cropped to vertical. Slight adjustment to Levels. Selective sharpening to bird.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

Amazing species - and a wonderful shot, as if you were balancing on the cliffs with the subject. I like the soft tones in the picture. Well done :toast: , Hans

Excellent capture Jim! The rocky cliffs add a nice sense of drama and the overall scene tells a story. Wonderful for you to get to see, let alone photograph this species.

Larger version is very nice and show wonderful details. I like the setting and you were wise to keep the bg all rock. Hope to see some of these soon! Sharon

Sweet photo with excellent detail, Jim. I like the effect of the fog. I'm curious as to the f16? Did you need it to get the whole bird in focus? I think the bg would have been a bit nicer with less dof.

Very nice. I love the soft light. Good choice on the composition.

I hope your shooting position was less precipitous than this bird's rest.
