Gonubie Rocks

by Morkel Erasmus

Gallery: LandscapePosted June 22, 2014214 views9 comments
Over Easter we visited the "Wild Coast" town of Gonubie (outskirts of East London) in South Africa. Weather and family schedule only allowed one afternoon session of shooting...

Light was promising but fizzled out just as it was about to peak with clouds moving over the horizon in the West. This was taken into the East over the Indian Ocean.
Blend of 2 exposures using the grad tool in PS CC.

Techs:
Nikon D800
Nikkor 14-24mm f2.8 @ 14mm
f16 | ISO-50

Morkel, this one just seems to pull you right in with the streaking cloud cover and water action too. This was perfect for the 14mm with the vast coverage and apparent DOF. Excellent seascape.

Very nice seascape, Morkel. There's a small bit of curvature of the horizon, but it's no biggie. I like this one.

This is a lovely, moody view. I especially like the mirroring between the two bands of clouds and the two guts of water.

I really like the depth of this image. The rocks and the clouds just pull you into the image. The colors are great also.

I love this shot with the 14mm. Beautiful composition with these stones that carry the eyes towards this ceiling of clouds. Bravo!

Beautiful colors and an excellent comp with the mirrored clouds and fore ground. Nice depth to this also. Very nicely done seascape with a peaceful mood.

Lots to like here, Morkel. Excellent blend of sea, shoreline and dramatic sky.

I love the sky on this one, Morkel. I would suggest either cropping from the top or the bottom to remove the horizon line from the center.

I agree with Paul about the image pulling you in. You have framed this up very nicely indeed. Although you lost the light as you say the cloud overhead was very obliging.

Gary.
