Carolina Weed

Not sure what this is, some sort of a flowering weed I would guest, any ID help would be appreciated. Found this at the edge of the woods in some tall grass near a boat ramp I was using in North Carolina yesterday. The white area is about the size of a silver dollar. There was nice setting sun light and reflected light off the water. This is one shot with no wind and full frame.

Mike

The light here is really sweet. Nice triangular composition. The image looks a little under exposed to me and may be worth tweaking the exposure a little eg +0.3 and see what this look like.

Beautiful portrait, Mike. I like the supporting leaves and bg to go with the flower. Nice light, great detail.
Re the ID, looks like Queen Anne's Lace, but can't say for sure. :toast:

Excellent comp. and lighting, Mike. It has a fine "glow". I agree that it looks like Queen Anne's Lace, but be cautious because poison hemlock looks very similar.

A big thanks to Gary, Scott and Mark for taking the time to comment on this image and for the spot-on ID help, you gave me the resources to start my investigation and I do believe this is Queen Annes Lace (Wild Carrot) Daucus carota.
It is so helpful to have such knowledgeable colleagues to help get me pointed in the right direction and it is greatly appreciated. :wavey:

Queen Anne's Lace in the garden; Wild Carrot anywhere else. An excellent shot, Mike. Looks like a tea doily.

Everything is beautiful: balanced composition, color harmony, far background ... I love this photo.
Take care.

It might be called Carolina Weed but you did a wonderful job of bringing it to life. It seems like an ornate flower but your photo speaks simplicity and I like that.

Mike - One of the very nice takes on the QAL I have seen. Love how you used the two branches holding the leaves to frame the flower. :toast:

Mike: Excellent comp and capture, especially the lighting. I might try to darken the BG a bit this works for me as is. Nicely done.>=))>
