The Migration

The extreme side-lighting that hit these glaciers, brought out some amazing textures and shapes that were quite mesmerizing. The late afternoon light seemed to reveal a moment, frozen, that displayed a scene resembling some aquatic migration. During this flight, we cruised along at about 11,500 feet between Whitehorse and Fort St John, Canada, with some very rugged terrain moving beneath us. This particular scene was situated on the very top of a high mountain along our route, and was a fairly common sight during our four hour leg.

Anyways, I'm curious to hear what you "see", when viewing this!

Canon 60d 55-250mm @ 123mm
ISO 500 --- f/5.6 --- 1/2000sec (shot through vibrating window )

View large, and as always, I appreciate your comments!

Too cool that it is hard to tell if you were 4 feet from the earth or much higher as you note.

Wild horses racing across sand. Texture is everything here. You make a curious request. It reminds me of my Photogrammetry Prof in college, asking us to tell what we saw in the aerial photograph, in terms of the photograph, what presence was indicated. A tough question! A Rorschach answer is easy. A factual answer would be much tougher. :toast:

For, thie initially looked like a sandstone rock surface and the scale would be something like 3x2 feet....
Could also be a detail of an elephant's skin.

I would have never guessed this to be a glacier shot from a plane!

SOunds like a cool flight. This etching looks like the skin or hide of an animal to me. My family was in the tannery business many years ago, and this looks like some of the skins I saw hanging around before they were tanned into the products you end up buying.

I think aerial shots make the coolest abstracts. We just are not used to this perspective and our minds have a hard time coming to grips with what we see. I see a school of migrating dolphins, I think

Cool abstract. Ice is nice, and will suffice.
