Since I'm seeing a lot of Christmas-evoking images, here's my contribution. Season's Greetings to everyone at NPN!

Actually taken the day after Thanksgiving on Vashon Island in Puget Sound. There had been a semi-rare, sea-level snowstorm the evening before and we went on a long walk all over the island. This was on the Shinglemill Trail and it was just exquisite walking through a deciduous rainforest, full of ferns and moss, with a heavy dusting of snow. I didn't have a tripod since that was not the purpose of our trip but I could not stop myself from shooting... a lot. Quite possibly the most beautiful few hours of my year.

Canon T1i, f/14, 1/125 sec., ISO-400, 27mm, handheld.

Dave, this has me thinking of some of the "classic" landscape images. The major trees and branches stand out nicely from the chaos of branches in the background (much better when viewed large) with their moss and dusting of snow. Walking in the woods on new fallen snow is one of my favorite activities, so your trip sounds like great fun.

The moss and the shadows in the trees are very evocative - and all the best to you too! :toast:

Very Elliot Porteresque, Dave. I like the way the dusting of snow contrasts with and highlights all the lines and moss. Well composed with the large trunk and top branch framing and anchoring the image. :toast:

Always love seeing moss in the woods, whether it be on trees or rocks. The dusting of snow just adds to the overall effect. Nicely seen and caught Dave. Happy shooting in 2015!

I find most cut off from the ground tree images ultimately unsatisfying, Dave, but I'll make an exception here. The crisp textures and the combination of the moss and snow colours makes for a wonderful abstract pattern, while the light yields a charming mood. Most delightful image !!
