Taken March 5, 2015 at The Wedge, a famous surf spot in Newport Beach, California. The expected huge surf did not occur, but average surf at this location is larger than anywhere else in Southern California. There were no surfers out, only boogie boarders and this one lone "skim boarder", Jeremy Whitney. He is not riding a surfboard, but a skim board. It is about 2 inches thick, less than 4 feet long and has no fin. He rides it by running on the sand toward the water dropping the board in about 1/2 inch of water and his momentum propels him to the wave ahead. He is able to turn up the crest of the wave and ride it like a surf board. I was fascinated by his skill doing this.
