Lilac-breasted roller

Probably one of the most photographed birds in South Africa, taken towards the later part of the day. Background is not ideal and no chance of moving, perhaps reversing a fraction back may have offered a more 'clear backdrop', but you take what you can, as I would rather have one 'in the bag' rather than nothing at all.cool

Kurt, I know I owe you a reply on my last thread, will address that.

The background is far enough behind the oof that it is not a distraction to -- the background around the head is very nice -- all those colors and the orange eye -- like it all

Lovely detail in the bird, Steve.  The bg is what it is and sometimes, as you say, we don't have a lot of choice.  I'd certainly have taken this one.

Thanks guys, I know we ALL strive to get the perfect background whilst 'out' or in 'set-ups', but often we just have to sadly accept what there is, although I do have them with perhaps better/more pleasing BKG's, I just like the warm colours and perhaps the less 'sterile' look.

cheers

Beautiful detail on the bird, especially the head. The background is not ideal, but not a deal breaker for me. Well done.

Steve, even with the busy BG, you managed to nicely isolate your subject so the BG doesn't become a major distraction.  Nice work.
