Back on March 2nd at Falcon Lake in Texas I had a bit of drizzly weather. This Cardinal seemed a bit bummed out by it, but I liked the way she sat on one side of the perch.
7Dii, 300mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, hand held propped on picnic table (If my memeory is correct), f/5.6, 1/125, iso 1250, aperture priority, center weighted average metering, no compensation. Processed in LR5 & CS6. Cropped to 14.3MP. Taken at Falcon State Park on March 2nd at 8:14 am.
Thanks for your comments on the Shoveler and I look forward to your input on this image.

7 commentsI really like the composition Dennis. The bird does look a bit sad but that's a plus. The blurred flowers give the image depth. I would love to see these birds but that is not going to happen over here. Graham
Very nice, Dennis. Like the rain and visible drops. The bird's pose is excellent, and the overall surroundings add to the image. Love it ! Cheers, Hans
This photo nicely shows off the typical mood of a rainy day. Very nice details visible in the soggy cardinal, I really like this composition also, the flowers perfectly frame the bottom of the image.
Sweet One Dennis!
The large image really brings out the muted colors and the rain drops. Very nice effect.
I like the softness of the lovely light. The suggestions of Spring in the flowers, lightest of rain and the emerging buds are fine grace notes. Most of all I like the detail and pose of Ms. Cardinal! One of your best, Dennis!
Really like this composition Dennis....nice work!
Dennis,
A very fine example as to why perfect lighting is not always needed, tremendous mood!
