Green Jay

Yet another from Salineno near Falcon State Park in Texas.  I found it very difficult to properly expose this colorful bird and not blow something out.  The overcast/drizzly conditions were in my favor on the morning I visited this site.

7Dii, 500mm f4 ISL  1.4TC, Jobu Gimbal on RRS legs, f/5.6, 1/640, iso 1250, aperture priority, center weighted average metering, no compensation.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  There's a fair amount of manipulation here in cleaning up the bg, removing an oof branch and half an orange which was the focus of interest of the bird.  Cropped from the sides (mostly left) to a 4x5 aspect ratio.  Taken at 10:10 am on March 3rd.

The larger image shows much more detail, particularly in the blacks.

I appreciate all the feedback on the rework of the Kiskadee image, it was very helpful.  I look forward toyour input on this image.

Thanks,

Beautiful bird.  Very sharp detail about the face; good handling of the blacks.  I like the complimentary background and perch.

He's a beauty Dennis! The large version is a must see. Wonderful detail where it counts and a very nice complimentary background.

You're right about exposing these birds Dennis, very difficult indeed. However you wouldn't know that from viewing this image-especially the LP-nicely handled. The detail is superb and the eposure looks right on to my eyes. Lovely background and a clean perch top the image off IMO.

Awesome bird Dennis, wonderful mute colors against a non-distracting BG - what more could you ask for ? devil, Hans

Lovely image Dennis.  And, yes, the larger image shows much better detail.

Excellent image of the jay, Dennis. The minimal elements in the image and very complementary background make the subject pop. The large version has tons of details in the dark areas as you mentioned.
