Last week I went part way up one of the Adirondack high peaks looking for some fall color, and this mid-day shot is one of the more colorful scenes I found. This is a view of some of the Adirondack peaks in the Great Range, from an outcropping on the side of Giant Mountain known as Giant's Nubble. (For more info on that hike, see this post in the NPN Photographers Gallery )
Canon 5D3; Canon 24-105 mm.
1/40 sec. @ f/16; ISO 320; Circ. Pol.
Processing note: with the mid-day colors and polarizer, I had to significantly REDUCE the saturation of the leaves of the two red maple tree in the foreground.

5 commentsWayne, I did a click through on your link listed above and wanted to say how glad I was that I did. Seeing you out and about after your lengthy illness is an outstanding and positive update overall.......
This scene, although mid day, is excellent. It provides a bit of documentation to your journey on this wonderful day. For me it provides a neat look at the opposite coast environment that I've not visited in many years now. A super update message and a neat POV with this image too.......
Congratulations on the great news! What a lovely way to celebrate with October"s vibrant colors and lovely weather. This is a breathtaking view, nicely grounded by the fg branches. Well done
Congrats on the health news!! That is awesome.
Those are some eye-poppin' colors. I am on the fence about the harsher light?
The colors here are great, Wayne. One of the benefits of mid-day, over-the-shoulder light (e.g. a Kodak moment). I'm also enjoying the fine sense of depth with the foreground trees and the long valley angling into the distance. That red maple on the right is still very intense, amazing that you've already dialed it down a bit.
Wayne, That was some really good news to read and I think you are a pretty amazing guy. The picture is beautiful and I could sit there and enjoy this scene for quite some time.
