Local Merlin

This is a merlin that has shown up periodically on a neighbor's property over the past few winters.  Some times I will see it reliably every morning/evening, and then go a week or more without seeing it.  I decided to work this one as a high-key instead of another snowy owl shot as there just wasn't anything terribly interesting in that set to warrant re-working them.

Nikon D7100 80-400mm VR HH
f/8
1/400s
ISO 1000
+1.7EC (terrible sky that morning)

Cropped to about 50%, minor adjustments, cloned an OOF branch, converted to B&W in Perfect Effects 8

Love the high-key approach and overall graphic strength here, Luke...and it's a fantastic look at this Merlin to boot. Really like this one.

The high key B&W treatment was a good decision here, Luke.  I've tried to process shots like that and it isn't easy to find the right formula-this works well.
