Bull

While driving in the Lamar valley of Yellowstone I noticed this handsome bull in the distance. The long hair on his head seemed pretty distinctive. He ws pretty far out for a meaningful photo so I kept going. Luckily by the time I got back to that same spot he was about to cross the road. Now he was too close. Taken from the safety of a car of course.

Canon 7DII, EF 70-200 mm F/2.8 II @ 88 mm
1/180s, F/4.5, ISO 125

Cheers,

Hisham.

Very nice indeed Hisham, great detail and nicely processed. Upping the ISO to 400 would have given a better SS without hurting the image or IQ. For me it's too tight, more space below and above would have been better and perhaps a little less on the LHS placing the subject more off center. Love the raised foot and eye contact with the viewer. Still a nice image.

Great job on the raised leg and on the processing.  The eyes are really riveting in the large view.

Hisham: a wonderful capture. The eye contact and the raised foreleg make the shot. Just wish you had more room all around, but that's minor in comparison to the overall effect. Richard

I love the pose for reasons already noted.  It would have been good in this moment to rotate the camera for a vertical format to provide space as suggested by Stephen. I know that can be a hard adjustment to make in the sudden flurry of unfolding action.   Eye contact is great and exposure is excellent.

Hello Hisham ,.... Very well done with the exposure ,right on, and excellent details in the dark areas too!
Already mentioned but quite tight all around, and Lon mentioned the vertical could have helped here!

Thanks for sharing.

Hisham, this is a great up close, "in-your-face" view.  The details in his head are great and the upraised paw a fine addition.  I like the whiteness around him with the scattered shrubs.  Yes, a bit more space, especially up to would be nice, but this tight look does emphasize his power.  A square crop would be interesting as well.

What a great close up, this really gives you the feeling of him being your face.  It breaks some rules compositionally (being quite tight) but I think it works really well like this because it emphasizes that in your face effect.  Great shot Hishamdevil

Thanks everyone! The tight composition was intentional. Nate summed up my rationale. I didn't have to switch to vertical for more space as I could have simply zoomed out from 88 mm down to 70 mm.

Cheers,

Hisham.

This image really express the power and determination of the Bison. Great detail and the contrast of the dark coat and the white snow is handled very well.

Wow!  It looks like you were about to get a very large dent in your car, Hisham!  What an excellent close up!  Great job with the exposure as well, especially considering the dark fur and bright white background.
