This is an older image that was never included in my NPN personal Gallery.

I named this waterfall near Sonora Pass for a CalFire helitac fire fighter who died in the line of duty.

Mamiya 645E
6x4.5 cm transparency
Full frame

Please see the large version. Thanks!

Your thoughts are always appreciated. cool

Real nice image and naming the falls is a fine tribute, as well.  It is a lot nicer name than the name of falls up above there! sad

No nits here.

Preston,

This one is special; not just because of your tribute, but the image itself.  I love this intimate view, but more than that the water is unlike most waterfall/flowing water images.  The water isn't just silky white.  I love the silvery tones.  It has a metallic look, yet it's also translucent.  This is wonderful; elegant, yet strong and powerful. Love this.

The only thing to nitpick and suggest would be toning down the green in the LL.  It doesn't quite reach neon status, but for me the green is a little too brilliant/saturated.  Now, don't go going global with any changes, the hints of green up top really add to the image; I like the touch of color from an otherwise monochromatic image.  I would just back off on the greens in the LL. Both behind the water and on the rock.  A minor tweak to make a great image even that much better.

Preston, This is wonderful. I absolutely love this comp and you included just the right amount above the falls to make one wonder what else is back there. It really draws one back into the scene after exploring the main falls for awhile. I also like the exposure and shutter speed very much. The metallic sheen that Lon mentioned looks fantastic! I didn't think to much about the greens being to bright on my monitor but taking them down just a little bit would work. This is an image that I'm totally enjoying. Excellent work!

I love the simplicity of this, and the structure in the water and the look of it is so nice. It's a small detail, but the fact that you included that small piece of the previous waterfall in the background is a really nice feature too. No nits!

Great detail in the falls and excellent processing.  I do feel the crop is a bit tight on top however. Beautiful image for a meaningful tribute.

Very nicely composed waterfall portrait with perfect shutter speed on the water. The understated colors go very well with this image.  The pool at the top beautiful and adds a fine contrast to the flow and texture you have created in the water. A well-done tribute.

I really like the peak at the upper pool and the water texture looks like taffy. A very nice falls closeup....

Preston, my first thought when I saw this was 'graceful elegance'.  The beauty of the cascade is beyond description to me, the luminance of the water,  the curves, the lines, the tonality of the water, flowing over the diagonal of the rock with the green hues of the moss.  Simply exquisite.  Truly a wonderful tribute to this heroic firefighter.  I would not change a thing.

Agree that the greens behind the cascade are a bit strong. Otherwise I have no nits. A lovely little scene with the smooth ribbons of water a nice contrast to the surrounding granite.
