This little Rufous had his own private Erithryna tree staked out and was protecting with all his might. Canon 60D, f8, 1/320sec, iso 640, 100-400 ISL at 400mm, Thanks for looking and thanks a lot for your thoughts.

Cute little guy.  The background is very nice and doesn't distract.  The red flower is pretty overpowering.  I would reduce the saturation on the red flower significantly.    I commented on David Shoen's image with a red flower.  I see a consistent issue with red's being oversaturated out of cameras.  I reduce the saturation on reds in nearly every image I take with red flowers.  Even if it really is that bright and intense it certainly draws my eyes away from the subject which is not a positive thing.

This is a really fun image, Ed.  I love the small size of the hummingbird compared with the flower.  Excellent job on the dof.

Good shot of this hummer eyeing his prize Ed. The side feathers of the gorget are spectacular and the detail on the bird is quite sharp. My only nit, and a small one at that, would be to bring up the shadows slightly in the throat and wings. devil

Ed, it's quite nice that you got that flash of color in the gorget.  It complements the flower quite well.

Nice catch -sweet little fellow.
I agree the saturation of the bright flower is overbearing. Maybe selectively bringing down the sat on the flower  but not the hummer - that way HE will be the focus.
Easily improved!

I really like that you captured that flash of red in the gorget of the Hummer, Ed. Very nice detail in the bird and a very attractive background. My only small nit would be to maybe reduce the saturation in the red plant a bit. It seems to overpower the bird in the image.
