Large Version Available

Several spells of warm weather over th winter created some wonderful fog and misty conditions in the Doe Farm Conservation area near me.  I frequently cross country ski there, and thought the fog might allow for some opportunities that aren't usually available so I brought my camera on this outing.  Fog can be a great transformer of typical situations for me.  I realize this might be pretty busy for most, hoping that the fog neutralized some of that.  The maple leaves that somehow remained on this tree really popped in the lighting.

Very nicely balanced composition and the light separates it all quite naturally.  Always so interesting to see what nature can come up with to catch our eye.

Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. I don't find this busy. There is a very strong vertical pattern crossed by a gentler colored horizontal pattern. The image has order. It's not chaotic.

Harry,

The fog absolutely minimizes the busyness. This is quite wonderful.  The "survivor" leaves take center stage, and along with the fog really help create order from chaos.  The branches and tree structure is rather random, although the main, larger trunks help with that.

No nits or suggestions.  I do get a cold, damp and clammy feeling, which tells me the image is taking me there. Brrrrr.

Lon, I realized I could have warmed the whites, or general white balance but the more neutral / cooler tones worked better withe the warmer toned leaves.

Thanks all!

Love this one--- so evocative of a time and place. Loads of mood and not too busy for me. I like that there are no real blacks, as that's what fog does to things. It is almost an abstract that is very appealing.

yes, this is one of those images that won't work without the atmosphere. The fog takes care of the busyness and leaves take centrestage. Can't think how this could be improved.

Great Autumn/Winter atmosphere, Harry. I like how the fog creates mystery and enhances the color of the leaves.

Harry, there is a wonderful subtlety to your image for me. The leaves make for an appealing kind of flow through the whole composition, while the trunks anchor it well. I can immediately feel the wintry atmosphere.

Excellent Harry.  Not at all chaotic for me.  I have a couple of suggestions that are really minor.  There are two small areas of light top right I would clone and I would tone down the bright bits of snow along the top.  Beautifully done.

Interesting how you framed the leaves and the trees just enough to tell this story. The fog pulls it all together nicely. Each time I look at this image I see something different which keeps bringing me back to look for me.

Fantastic, Harry.  Love how the autumn leaves appear to be suspended in air against the beautiful pattern of tree trunks and branches, and of course that outstanding fog.  Gorgeous image, one I hope you print very large.

So much art in this Harry. I really like the "vestige of fall" feel this has. The fog really makes this work.

This is amazing. The fog has reduced the less ordered branches enough not to be a distraction.
