Mockingbird & Repost

Another from my trip in March/April.  This one was taken in the RV Park I was staying at near Rockport, Texas.  I'd put out a feeder and a water drip to see what might show up and the drip attracted one of the local Mockingbirds.  I converted this to B&W because most of it was pretty much that way already except for one little oddly shaded blue patch that came from some man-made artifact.  Changing to black and white did a nice job of blending it into the background.

7Dii, Sigma 150-600 C @ 516 mm, hand held, f/8, 1/800, iso 800, aperture priority, pattern metering, -1/3 EV.  Processed in LR & PS CC.  Cropped from a horizontal original to vertical.  Cropped just a touch off the bottom and added a bit more to the top.  Taken April 11th at 2:44 PM under hazy skies.

Comments and criticisms are always welcome.

Thanks,

Nice bird pose, and the B&W version turned into a very nice image, Dennis!

Nice look at this mockingbird Dennis. The pose is great and the B & W looks really nice here. The larger version is nice and sharp and has really nice lighting. Good work.

You captured a nice pose on this one, Dennis. A good candidate for a B&W. I think maybe a bit of additional contrast would make this pop a little more in B&W.

Very nice pose Dennis, the image looks a bit flat as a black and white, as Matt suggested you could try increasing the contrast. devil

Hi Dennis
The Black & White makes you look at the Mockingbird more closely.  Nice work.

Thanks for the suggestion on contrast, Matt & Nate.  You can tell I don't do much B&W.  Here's a repost with some tweaking via levels and curves layers.  You can click on the image for a larger version.

I really like the repost, Dennis. The change really brings out the fine detail.

Dennis,

The repost is much better than the original.  Well done with the additional contrast.....................Jim

He's striking a great pose for you! I can't think of a single critique for this one. It looks gorgeous in B&W, it almost gives a wintery mood to it, haha.
