Tricolor on the Hunt

Over the years Bayou Sauvage NWR has been a favorite go-to destination for waders and not far away from my home.  Unfortunately the wader population there has declined more recently, however 2013 was a very productive year.  I love the stalking behavior of the TCH.  This one was so intent on a meal that it ignored me and approached at close range, so I reframed for a portrait.  Unfortunately the boardwalk precluded a lower angle, but I liked the intense stare and square on pose.  Slight crop from top & RHS.

I love heron shots from the front. Good one. I wonder if a tighter crop -taking off the body would help?- maybe not.
Cheers

I like the way the spots on the body mirror the spots in the background.  Along with the head on frontal view in the detail around the eyes, this makes for an interesting composition.  Good job.

This really shows the odd neck and head turns these birds use when hunting, Bill.  Excellent color and the face-on view is wonderful.

Bill: I really like the head on pose and the intensity the bird is showing. Its coloration looks very good against  the background. Congrats! Richard
