Male Cape May Warbler

Camera settings:   Canon 1D Mark 2    1/160 sec     f5.6      600mm IS lens with 12mm extension tube
Location:  Michigan's Eastern Upper Peninsula

Bird came to perch when attracted by my water drip and shallow pool set -up for numerous songbird flocks which gather along the north shore of Lake Huron after crossing the Lake in May.  The perch was the top of a spruce tree which fell off during a windstorm on my property.  Photo taken from my blind.

It's hard to critique with the smaller image; you know you can post an image up to 1600 pixels on the long axis?

A good shot in habitat.

Welcome to the Avian Gallery on NPN, Paul.  An sweet image of a beautiful bird.  I like the setting and it fits the bird admirably, however, I prefer the crop you used for your workshop posting. as it provides a bit more room for the bird and seems better balanced.  Detail in the face is excellent.

I look forward to your future posts and, given your obvious experience, your comments on other's images.

I'd like this shot a lot. Great composition and the colors are superb. Pinecones and conifer branches are really neat. Well put together picture. Keep up the good work Paul!

Dennis Plank,  Thank You for your comment.  I like the wider crop as well.  I hastily put this photo up, as it is the cover of my next book:  Beautiful Birds of the United States and Your Freedom
