The Joy of Splashing

A Trumpeter Swan having a blast dipping, splashing, shaking and flapping.  I got a number of shots but I liked this one best despite the fact that his back was to me because his open mouth showed how much fun he was having and the back shot really shows all that wonderful feather detail all mixed up with the water spray.

Sony a6500, FE100400GSM @ 400mm, ISO-160, f/5.6, 1/4000, hand held.

Another one that needs to be seen large. The spray in the large image is not only impressive, but it gives one and idea of the strength and vigor of the swan. Very impressive.

Great action, Gary.  The plumage detail is awesome and I love the spray.  I do think you could give this image a bit more punch by playing with the brighter tones-use curves or Tony Kuyper's effects to bring the lower level "whites" up a bit and separate them from the background more.  Also, I'll often end up letting some of the splashes go completely hot so I can get the rest to look brighter.
