The sunflowers are 2 weeks ahead of schedule and they normally start setting seeds in mid August.  I have been working on getting a few male goldfinches isolated from the BG. D500 600mm f4 +1.4x TC (1/2000 sec at f5.6, Iso 800) Levels, DeNoise, crop for comp, Topaz Detail..........................................Jim

Excellent, Jim.  I like the pose and perch a lot.  It's interesting-our males are mostly starting to molt and look pretty ratty now.

Hello Jim:

You got some very nice elements in this image. The full sunflower and fine background add a lot. The light is very complementary too. But I find the goldfinch head appears very soft - looks like the focal point is on the flower and not the subject. With F5.6 you have a very thin dof, so the focus has been dead on the subject.

HI Jim
This is a very interest shot.  The Goldfinch has good coloring and detail and I like the framing.

Tons of nice potential in this frame.  Nice perch, pose and bird.  It's just not sharp where it counts though.

Agree on the softness. A fine picture otherwise.

Thank you for the critiques.  I have 2 versions of this one, and liked the pose of the presented version over the other one which is nice and sharp. I'll present that one later in the week for comparison purposes..........................Jim

Nicely composed image with a super perch and pose.  As mentioned the bird is not sharp.

Looking forward to seeing the other one, Jim, to see how it compares.  This is certainly a nice perch and subject to work with but the DoF was a bit too shallow unfortunately.
