Matrimonial Mishap

This is from late April at Jefferson Island rookery. I guess that in early spring they were in the stages learning the ropes. One of a couple dozen frames of this couple, I thought this awkward pose was the most interesting. Later they settled down a bit for more conventional romantic poses. Full height cropped from LHS to 4x3 aspect.

Are you sure there aren't three birds in that tangle, Bill?  Hard to believe that the dangling one could stretch that far.  Excellent techs and a very fun image.

Hi Bill,

Like Dennis, I thought that there was 3 egrets in the image, but the larger view reveals 2 egrets.  Pretty good results and you handled the whites quite well.....................................................Jim

Excellent light and shadows on this fun image.  Interesting that others see three egrets but I only see two pairs of legs.

Too funny!  Great timing and capture, Bill.  One really has to keep looking to figure it all out, they are so tangled.  Great capture.

The title you gave this post is priceless. Very interesting pose, and great you were able to catch it. Love the breeding plumage ! Cheers, Hans

That's very funny Bill, I thought there were 3 at first as well as it's hard to believe the one bird can stretch so much.  You handled the contrasty lighting well. devil

Fun image, Bill. Hard to say which head and legs belong to which egret. You might consider cropping the cut-ff egret on the top right.
