Folds of Time

"Folds of Time"
San Mateo Coast, California, November 2006.
[For Slavomir Dzieciatkowski, whose work has been a constant source of inspiration]
FIELD NOTES: I spent Halloween Night on a small deserted beach along Northern California's San Mateo Coast. I know this might sound crazy, but it was awesome to lie there in my warm sleeping bag and listen to the crashing waves all night long. And, there are few things in the world that come close to waking up in the morning next to the ocean, seeing shore birds fly overhead and feeling the wind and surf in your face.
After my recent visit to Northern Arizona (where I got to see some fantastic sandstone formations) I have often wondered what it would be like to go back to my favorite haunts around here where the rocks, although beautiful, are more modest in comparison. However, that fine morning my old friends once again didn't disappoint. In fact, it almost seemed as if they were celebrating my return by making that extra effort to glow in the soft light. I had to stand knee deep in icy cold water to realize this composition but I felt like I was on top of the world. It was nice to be back home again.

I plan to add this photograph to my on-going "Rocks `n Stones" series. As always, I look forward to hearing your thoughts/comments.
Kind regards.

Amazing color/form/composition
Rocks are wonderful
Best,

Quite the image Anil. A lot going on, but not overly clustered. I think the swirling line through the center really anchors the image and keeps it from being too hectic.
BTW, in my late teens and early 20's, I slept many a night on the beaches of Laguna Beach. I share your sentiments!

Your work fails to impress.

Indeed!!
This is really, really strong. It has so much going on, yet is also so wonderfully simple. Fantastic image.
Cheers

I must say that the encouragement and support I have received here at NPN has been a major contributing factor as I continue to work on my "Rocks `n Stones" series.
Following your comment on my recent image, it's nice to see you did get back to "your" coast - I like your description of the camping almost as much as the image!

This is popping right off the screen at me. The colors are awesome.
Thanks for sharing the story, too.
