Canon EOS 400D, Canon EF-S 18-55, tripod (of course!), 40 secs @ f5.6

Taken at 2AM, with an amazingly bright full moon, from my home terrace. I hope you enjoy this picture and would be very glad to read your thoughts on it, thanks for your time. Paolo

The clouds are awesome. I like the layered look with the stars. I would like to see the trees a bit darker maybe though. They looked fogged. Other than that looks great, one of the better sky's I have seen in a while.

Thank you Eric for commenting. There was actually quite some fog that night. Hovever you're probably right: burning the trees could help in increasing contrast.

Cheers, Paolo

I really like this a lot, Paolo. Kind of a surreal mood, and I love the stars and movement in the clouds. Bravo!

A wonderfully unusual image, Paolo. It is also really pretty. And here, rather than in your other post, I don't find the stars distracting. They add to the unique nature of this. You are
making me go and try this myself - thanks for that!

I think this one is even better than your last moonlit shot. Love the fog, the slight movement of clouds, and the stars.

Missed that in the first place...
This is wonderful. To me, the glimpse of the stars above the clouds is what makes the shot extremely unusual, helping the viewer realize what kind of strange and mysterious light it is.
Very unusual!

I want to thank everybody for your kind appreciation, and thanks to the editors, I'm honoured that this picture has been chosen. I have to thank them for the previous choice too - the one named "Foggy sunrise" -, as I didn't realize at that time that it was picked up.

Please let me share with you a reflection this fact suggested to my mind, of how ironic life can be sometimes.
I believe all of us wake up early in the morning, travel a lot, carry pounds and pounds of gears, to capture great scenes at the right moment and with the best possible equipment. Well, this picture was taken from the terrace of my house, while the other depicts a field that is just 50 yards far from home...

Please don't misunderstand my words, I value these photographs a lot, and I am very proud that they've been noticed... but certainly they didn't require as many efforts - in terms of travelling and load on shoulders at least - as many other photograph I took and keep taking did.

How funny and curious things can be sometimes, don't you agree?

My kindest regards,
Paolo

This one slipped by me too Paolo. I think seeing the stars peeking from behind the clouds give this such depth and largesse. Seems like it was a truly rich and beautiful moment and I'm glad you got it captured to share.

I agree with what you write. Sometimes the beauty is right under your nose and all you have to do is grab the camera and tripod off the shelf and take a few steps with it. :wavey:

Paolo, that's an inspiring and beautiful shot--the sky is incredible! I totally agree with you--my EP this week was just a quick afterthought; sometimes our best work comes when we dont put so much effort into it and just let things happen.

Congratulation on the EP..I initially missed this. Very surreal and unique. I agree with your thought and applaud your getting the camera out at 2am to experiment. I haven't done any night photography since a trip to Yosemite 7 years ago but that may have to change soon! :toast:
